Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump was recently celebrated by St. Thomas University in Florida, which unveiled the Benjamin L. Crump College of Law, reports MSN. This milestone achievement makes Crump the first practicing Black lawyer to have a U.S. law school named in their honor.

To support this new establishment, Will Smith, music legend George Clinton, and Bishop T.D. Jakes teamed up and raised $10 million for the institution.

“Ben has been an absolutely spectacular friend and guide. And that’s why it is important for me to be here with him today. There are very, very few people in the world with a heart like this,” said Smith during the naming ceremony. “So, it is my deepest honor and my deepest pleasure to be here to support and show some love and congratulations on this historic honor.”

During the celebratory event, Crump addressed the crowd with deep gratitude.

“I want you all to know that I feel like I’m the most blessed man on the face of the Earth today,” said Crump.

Celebrated for his recent efforts in advocating for families affected by police brutality – representing the likes of George Floyd, Michael Brown, and more recently Tyre Nichols, Crump has remained a loyal supporter of civil rights for the Black community nationwide and in support of families like that of Trayvon Martin, whose mother Sybrina Fulton was present at the ceremony.

Congratulations Attorney Benjamin Crump!
