Law enforcement officials and a recorded radio dispatch have revealed that a substance found within the White House complex prompted a temporary shutdown on Sunday evening, reports CBS News.

The substance, which tested positive for cocaine, was discovered in a common area of the West Wing. This section houses the Oval Office, as well as offices utilized by key aides and support staff of the President.

A law enforcement source informed CBS News that the substance was located in a storage facility within a cubby regularly utilized by White House staff and guests to store their cell phones.

In response to this incident, the Secret Service has taken the lead in conducting a comprehensive review to determine how the substance gained access to the West Wing.

This investigation will involve scrutinizing surveillance cameras and examining entrance logs in order to identify individuals who had the opportunity to enter the affected area.

The discovery of the “unknown item” prompted a “precautionary closure” of the White House, said Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

President Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden spent the weekend away from the White House, heading to Camp David on Friday. They returned on Tuesday, joining the National Education Association for an event and participating in Fourth of July celebrations.
