United Airlines Pilots Stage Nationwide Strike For Better Pay

In a powerful display of solidarity, pilots employed by United Airlines took to the picket lines at airports throughout the country on Friday, demanding better compensation as several other airlines also hinted at potential strikes, reports The Week.

The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the distinguished union that advocates for the rights of pilots, issued a press release underscoring the participation of over 3,000 United pilots in picket lines established at ten major airports across the nation.

United pilots have not received a salary increase in more than four years, further exacerbating the situation. Furthermore, the ongoing contract negotiations have reached a near standstill.

In a statement, the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association president Casey Murray said, Southwest pilots are “tired of apologizing to our passengers on behalf of a company that refuses to place its priorities on its internal and external customers.”

United Airlines employees are following in the footsteps of their counterparts at Southwest Airlines and American Airlines, who also recently voted to authorize a strike.

However, as the summer travel season approaches, it is unlikely that a strike will further complicate travel arrangements.
