According to NBC News, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been handed a 10-year sentence following his conviction for shooting hip-hop sensation Megan Thee Stallion in the foot subsequent to their departure from a Los Angeles gathering in 2020.

The trial, commencing on Monday and concluding on Tuesday, marked the culmination of a high-profile legal proceeding that exposed Megan, aged 28, to what prosecutors termed as “repeated and grotesque attacks.”

The case also brought attention to the struggles Black women encounter when disclosing instances of abuse.

According to AP News, in a statement read during rapper Tory Lanez’s sentencing, Megan Thee Stallion revealed that she has endured daily suffering since the incident three years ago when Lanez shot her in the feet.

“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” Megan said in a statement read by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

Megan revealed her internal conflict over appearing in person to give a statement. She ultimately decides against it because she “simply could not bring myself to be in a room with Tory again.”

Citing his lack of remorse in her statement, Megan said Lanez “has blamed the system, blamed the press, and as of late has tried to take advantage of his childhood trauma.”

Despite her absence, she requested that her decision be seen as indifference, urging Judge David Herriford to impose a severe sentence.

In efforts to secure a shorter sentence, his legal team pushed for probation and his transfer from incarceration to a residential program for substance abuse treatment.

They highlighted Lanez’s battle with alcohol misuse, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress rooted in the unexpected loss of his mother at age 11.
