Starbucks Faces Judge’s Order To Reinstate Fired Colorado Union Leader

December 31, 2023 | By Kali Girl

A federal administrative judge has determined that a Starbucks barista in Colorado was unfairly fired for organizing a union. According to CBS News, the judge not only mandated the rehiring of the barista, Alendra ‘Len’ Harris, but also ordered Starbucks to provide back pay and issue a formal letter of apology.

Presently, nearly 400 Starbucks stores are unionized, a notable increase from 300 during the summer. Despite this, none of these unionized stores have established a contract.

Harris sees this ruling as a validation not only for herself but for numerous other Starbucks workers across the country who have faced similar challenges while advocating for improved pay and working conditions through unionization.

“It really hits different when a legal document tells you you were treated unjustly,” Harris said.

“There’s a lot of feelings,” she added. “I’m incredibly validated.”
