Grammy-winning singer Paula Abdul filed a lawsuit accusing executive producer Nigel Lythgoe of sexual assault during her tenure as a judge on “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” reports NBC News. The lawsuit, filed under the Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act, cites incidents in the early 2000s and around 2015, utilizing the Act to address the statute of limitations.

During an initial season of “American Idol,” Abdul claimed Lythgoe assaulted her in an elevator, prompting her to push him away and flee when the doors opened.

Lythgoe “shoved” her against the wall of an elevator, “grabbed her genitals and breasts, and began shoving his tongue down her throat.”

According to the suit, despite confiding in a representative about the assault, Abdul “ultimately decided not to take action for fear that Lythgoe would have her fired from ‘American Idol,'” according to the suit.

The lawsuit includes 19 Entertainment Inc., FremantleMedia North America Inc., American Idol Productions Inc., and Dance Nation Productions as defendants.

Representatives for Lythgoe did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
