Memphis Police Sued Over Fatal Beating of Tyre Nichols

April 20, 2023 | By Kali Girl

Attorney Ben Crump recently held a press conference where he revealed that Tyre Nichols’ family is seeking over $500 million in a federal lawsuit against the Memphis police. The family alleges that Tyre was fatally beaten by the police and draws striking parallels between his death and the infamous 1955 murder of Emmett Till.

The family’s lawsuit, as obtained by TMZ, suggests that Tyre’s brutal beating was inflicted by a “modern-day lynch mob.”

The Nichols family is taking legal action against the City of Memphis, Police Chief Cerelyn Davis, and the officers responsible for the vicious assault on Tyre.

The suit claims Tyre’s death was the “direct and foreseeable product of the unconstitutional policies, practices, customs, and deliberate indifference” from Memphis and its police chief.

Tyre tragically passed away in January, just three days after he was brutally beaten by five Memphis police officers. These officers were subsequently terminated and charged with second-degree murder.

Tyre’s family is taking legal action against a sixth officer who was terminated but not prosecuted, as well as three members of the Memphis Fire Department who arrived at the scene but purportedly neglected to offer assistance to Tyre. The lawsuit requests a jury trial and damages, though a precise monetary figure has not been specified.
