Memphis EMTs Dismissed for Conduct During Tragic Police Beating of Tyre Nichols

January 31, 2023 | By Kali Girl

NBC News reported, on Monday, three Memphis Fire Dept. EMTs were dismissed after an internal probe into the response of the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols. The result of the probe showed that Robert Long, JaMichael Sandridge and Lt. Michelle Whitaker breached multiple department policies during their Jan 7th response to patient Nichols.

According to the fire department’s statement, “Their actions or inactions on the scene that night do not meet the expectations of the Memphis Fire Department and are not reflective of the outstanding service the men and women of the Memphis Fire Department provide daily in our community.”

“Our investigation has concluded that the two EMT’s responded based on the initial nature of the call (person pepper sprayed) and information they were told on the scene and failed to conduct an adequate patient assessment of Mr. Nichols.”

Efforts to reach Long and Whitaker via phone numbers listed for them were unsuccessful on Monday evening. Sandridge has yet to respond to an email seeking comment.
