In a major upheaval in the media industry, cable news anchors Tucker Carlson of Fox News and Don Lemon of CNN made unexpected exits from their respective networks on Monday amidst a series of controversies.

According to Politico, the announcement of Carlson’s departure from Fox News came as a surprise, with the network promoting his primetime show just hours before issuing a statement confirming the separation.

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” Fox News said in a statement. “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.

Starting Monday, “Fox News Tonight” will air at 8 p.m. EST as an “interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”

Lemon gave his response to being fired on Twitter stating he was stunned.

“At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play.”

CNN quickly responded stating Lemon’s statement is “inaccurate” as he was “offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Both anchors have been embroiled in controversy in recent months. Don Lemon, a veteran CNN anchor of 17 years, made headlines in February when he commented on-air about presidential hopeful Nikki Haley, stating she, “isn’t in her prime” and that a woman is “in her prime in her 20s, 30s, 40s.” He apologized the next day via Twitter.

Carlson’s departure was announced just a week after Fox News reached a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems for a whopping $787.5 million in a defamation lawsuit.

The White House joined in denouncing Carlson’s misleading depiction of the U.S. Capitol insurrection that occurred on January 6, 2021. This revelation was brought to light through Dominion’s legal proceedings.

According to TMZ, NewsNation are interested in both Calrson and Lemon. Carlson reportedly earned $20M per year with FOX while Lemon earned $7M annually with CNN. However, although networks are offering up a new home, they both may be looking at pay cuts in their future.
