According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie Foxx and Colin Firth are set to produce an exciting documentary about the iconic R&B legend Luther Vandross. This groundbreaking project, supported by Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division, Sony Music Publishing, Foxxhole Productions, and Raindog Films, will delve into Vandross’ extraordinary life and career.

The eight-time Grammy winner, who died in 2005 at 54, sold a staggering 40 million albums globally, with most reaching platinum or double platinum status.

Their impact was felt on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where they scored five Top 10 hits including “Here and Now,” “Endless Love,” and “Power of Love/Love Power.”

Additionally, they dominated the R&B chart with 27 Top 10 hits, seven of which reached No.1. Their remarkable talent garnered them 33 Grammy nominations, solidifying their place in music history.

“Luther is one of our GOATs,” Foxx said in a statement. “He’s one of the greatest singers in the history of music. It is truly an honor to be a part of the team to help bring this incredible story to the masses.”

The documentary “will follow the iconic artist as he charted his own course becoming one of the most decorated and influential pop artists of all time” and “capture the intensely private Grammy-winning artist’s passion for music, global rise and personal struggles.”

The documentary is receiving strong support from his inner circle of friends and family. Producers have collaborated with Trilogy Films, the Estate of Luther Vandross, and their partner, Primary Wave Music, to bring this project to life.

Award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter will serve as director, as production is currently underway.

“Like so many, I have always loved Luther’s music, but I had no idea of the breadth and scope of his artistry. I think people will be surprised at how much he accomplished in his tragically short life. It is a joy to be able to share his true story,” said Porter.
