Ice Cube’s Firm Warning to AI Music Makers

May 22, 2023 | By Kali Girl

Ice Cube, known for his unfiltered opinions, criticized the AI craze and expressed his dislike for AI-generated music in a recent interview with the Full Send podcast, reports Hip Hop DX.

When asked by the host if he heard Drizzy and The Weeknd’s viral AI-generated collaboration “Heart on My Sleeve,” Cube said, “I don’t wanna hear an AI Drake song.” “I don’t wanna hear that bullsh*t.” “He should sue whoever made it.”

The host then said, “AI’s coming for you too.” Ice Cube responded with, “And I’mma sue the muthaf*cka who made it and the people and the platform who play it. It’s like a sample, you know what I mean? Somebody can’t take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.”

Not alone in this, in an interview with Sirius XM, Black Eyed Peas expressed his opposition to emerging technology.

On May 18, Jay-Z’s engineer Young Guru also revealed that isn’t on board through an Instagram post.

“@Timbaland I love you my brother. You know I do. But this ain’t it!!!” he wrote. “This is dangerous and at a basic level it’s corny!!”

“I’ve been trying to tell everyone that this is where we are now with AI,” he said. “For some reason this one got everyone’s attention. So, what do we do. On one hand I’m well aware that you can’t stop technology. Once the genie is out of the box you can put him back in.

“On the other hand, we have to protect the rights of the artist. Not only artist but everyone in society. People should not be able to take your Name, Image, and Likeness without permission. We have to add the voice to this law.”
