Gunplay Can Face 5-Year Prison Term for Leaked DJ Envy Call

May 31, 2023 | by Kali Girl

According to Hip Hop DX, Gunplay’s leaked phone conversation with DJ Envy may have landed him in legal trouble, potentially resulting in a prison sentence of up to five years. The conflict between the former Maybach Music artist and the Breakfast Club host escalated when Gunplay demanded an apology from Envy for involving his newborn daughter’s GoFundMe page in his feud with Rick Ross.

Envy had criticized Ross for not publicly supporting Gunplay’s fundraising efforts or assisting with his child’s medical expenses. Gunplay took offense to his name being brought up and, as a result, leaked a phone call where he demanded an apology from Envy, even going as far as threatening violence.

“Why you talking crazy? About me my brother. What I had to do with anything, and my wife posting a GoFundMe? My baby was sick. She had a heart defect. That has nothing to do with cars. You know I’ll slap the sh*t out you, boy! Envy, for real, you know I’ll slap the sh*t out of you, right?”

Envy responded: “We can fight, but that’s not the reason I’m saying that… I wasn’t trying to disrespect you. I wasn’t talking about your daughter. If you feel like you were disrespected, I’m talking to you like a man. I would never. If you feel I did, I apologize. That wasn’t my intention.”

“I thought it was dope because I thought it was two men having a problem, a disagreement and handling it like men,” Envy said in response to the leak. “The fact that we could have that discussion. I thought that was dope, but then you record a phone call? I just thought that was chasing something else.”

He continued with, “never even said what it was I just said he put up a GoFundMe.”

“Another thing that people gotta understand too, and this is a side note, it is against the law to record somebody’s phone conversation and not tell ’em,” Envy added. “That is against the law … I want people to understand right? Florida is where this happened. Under Florida statute 93403, ‘secretly audio recording another individual is a third-degree felony offense, punishable up to five years in prison and a fine.”

He continued: “District Attorneys from Florida have been calling me like crazy.

During Tuesday’s Rumor Report, Charlemagne asked Envy to apologize. Having already done so during the leaked phone call, Envy said, “I’m not gonna over-apologize.”
