Draymond Green Rejects $27.5M Player Option, Testing Free Agency

Draymond Green, the prominent forward for the Golden State Warriors, has decided to decline his player option for the 2023-24 season, reports the New York Post. This move puts him in the realm of unrestricted free agency, as confirmed by Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“We will continue to talk to Golden State and explore all options,” Paul said.

As anticipated, Green’s decision grants him the opportunity to engage in discussions about his future with the Warriors, while also exploring potential sign-and-trade deals or securing a long-term contract with another team.

Following the Lakers’ victory over the reigning champion Warriors in six games, securing their spot in the Western Conference Finals, Green revealed that he had conversations with veteran teammates Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

During these discussions, they all expressed their mutual commitment to remaining united in Golden State.

“I was talking to Klay as we were sitting at the table last night, Ty [Jerome] Klay, Steph and myself — just like how important and big of a summer this is,” Green said at the time. “Like, how locked in we need to be.

“No I don’t think this is it. I’ll say it right here for you: This isn’t it. “We plan on doing this thing again. That’s the plan. Obviously, this is a business and things have to take place. I get that, but we plan on doing this again.”

The Warriors have shown interest in re-signing the 33-year-old Green.
