Diddy Honored with Harlem Apollo Icon Award

Diddy received the esteemed Apollo Icon Award in his beloved Harlem, reports Hip Hop DX. The music mogul took to Instagram, urging all those who wish to join in the celebration to gather on Monday (June 12).

“Wassup Harlem, I’m coming Home,” Diddy said. “Monday, I’ll be there, getting that Apollo Icon Award. And you know it’s up. So if you in the city all the Harlemites, ya’ll know I ain’t got everybody’s number but I plan on seeing you, and drinks is on Diddy.”

He added: “Yeah. The champ is coming back home. The King is coming back home. The son is coming back home. Harlem, Harlem, Harlem. I’m coming back home.”

Joining him were basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was honored with the Impact Award, and Jonelle Procope, the CEO of Apollo, recognized for her dedicated service for two decades. Warby Parker, the indie eyewear manufacturer, was acknowledged with the Outstanding Leadership in Innovation, Diversity, and Global Community award.

MC Lyte graced the event with her performance, while Wyclef Jean and DJ D-Nice performed DJ sets in honor of Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary.

The Apollo’s Spring Benefit serves as a tribute to the theater’s rich legacy and its commitment to Harlem and New York City.

The event aims to raise funds for the venue’s innovative performing arts, education, and community initiatives, which positively impact around 200,000 individuals each year.
