DeSantis Vows to Abolish IRS and More as US President

In a bold declaration, Ron DeSantis, a potential presidential candidate, vowed to eliminate four federal agencies if he assumes office: the IRS, Commerce Department, Energy Department, and Education Department, reports The Guardian.

“If Congress will work with me on doing that, we’ll be able to reduce the size and scope of government,” the Florida governor said in an interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum.

He added: “If Congress won’t go that far, I’m going to use those agencies to push back against woke ideology and against the leftism that we see creeping into all institutions of American life.”

Governor DeSantis, trailing significantly behind Donald Trump in GOP presidential nomination polls, unveiled new proposals to position himself further to the right of Trump on crucial matters. The aim is to rally the conservative base of the Republican Party.

It is important to note that presidential candidates cannot unilaterally abolish federal agencies; the support of Congress is essential to enact such changes.
