Dance Legend Maurice Hines, Star in ‘The Cotton Club,’ Passes Away at 80

Renowned actor, dancer, and choreographer Maurice Hines, best known for his collaboration with brother Gregory Hines in “The Cotton Club,” passed away at the age of 80, reports Variety.

Maurice’s tap-dancing journey began at the age of 5, leading to a Broadway debut in 1954. Alongside Gregory, they formed the duo Hines, Hines & Dad, showcasing their talent nationwide and on various TV shows.

After going solo, Maurice excelled in roles like Nathan Detroit in “Guys and Dolls” and earned a Tony nomination for his work on “Uptown…It’s Hot!”

His contributions extended to choreographing and performing in productions such as “Yo Alice,” “Tappin’ Thru Life,” and “First Lady of Song,” a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.

In 2019, the biographical documentary “Maurice Hines: Bring Them Back” celebrated his remarkable career.
