According to the Guardian, in a recent public event at his temple in Dharamshala, the Dalai Lama found himself amid allegations of misconduct after reportedly kissing a young boy on the lips and asking him to “suck his tongue”.

The incident occurred in late February and was witnessed by approximately 100 young students who had just graduated from the Indian M3M Foundation.

Amidst a viral video, a young male student approached the microphone at the event and posed a question to the Dalai Lama: “Can I hug you?”

After inviting the boy onto the platform where he was seated, the Dalai Lama pointed to his cheek and said, “first here.” Subsequently, the young child kissed him on the cheek.

Not letting go of the boy, he said “I think here also,” after which he kissed him on his lips with the request, “And suck my tongue.” The Dalai Lama then stuck out his tongue, while laying his forehead on the forehead of the student.

The boy attempted to move away, only to be pulled back in for another hug while the audience looked on and laughed.

After the video went viral, numerous people voiced their disapproval, describing it as “inappropriate,” “scandalous,” and “disgusting.” This outcry caused the Dalai Lama’s office to issue an apology, asserting that his actions were “innocent and playful.”

The statement provided said: “His holiness wishes to apologize to the boy and his family as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused.

“His holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras. He regrets the incident.
