China’s Communist Party Rewriting the Bible

According to Fox News, the Chinese Communist Party’s ‘sinicization’ campaign targets religion, including a decade-long effort to revise religious texts such as the Bible.

The Gospel of John 8:7-11 reads: 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.

9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”

11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

A beautiful account of mercy and forgiveness.

However, a Chinese university textbook gave a glimpse of what a Bible with socialist characteristics might entail, with a rewritten Gospel of John depicting Jesus, not showing forgiveness.

Instead, the textbook show’s Jesus participating in the stoning of an adulterous woman until she meets her demise.

Disturbing reports emerge from Henan province, where local officials compel Protestant churches to replace sacred scriptures, like the Ten Commandments, with quotes from Xi Jinping. “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me,” became commands like: “Resolutely guard against the infiltration of Western ideology.”

At the 19th Party Congress, Chairman Xi declared “We will…insist on the sinicization of Chinese religions and provide active guidance for religion and socialism to coexist.”

In a decade-long endeavor, Chinese President Xi Jinping seeks to rework sacred texts, including the Bible and Quran, with the aim of aligning the faithful’s allegiance with the party instead of their God.
