In a shocking development, a woman has come forward with accusations of sexual assault against popular radio host Charlamagne tha God. Jessica Reid has filed a federal lawsuit against the host of “The Breakfast Club,” alleging sexual assault, battery, and defamation. The incident in question occurred in 2001, when Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard McKelvy, was 22 years old and Reid was just 15. According to reports, Charlamagne was arrested for “criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the 2nd degree” in connection with the incident. A rape kit was completed, but Charlamagne’s DNA was not found at the scene. Reid is also said to have not cooperated with the investigation. These allegations are deeply disturbing and will no doubt draw intense scrutiny and attention in the days to come, reports Madamenoire.

In the lawsuit Reid alleges that after Charlamagne gave her a drink, she became dizzy and felt “like her legs gave out.” She claims to have heard men laughing and Charlamagne telling someone to take her upstairs, where she was sexually assaulted by two men in the bathroom. She also accuses Charlamagne of carrying her to a bedroom and raping her. Charlamagne later pleaded guilty to a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was sentenced to three years probation. Reid reportedly urged her mother not to press charges against Charlamagne. This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of sexual assault and the importance of believing and supporting survivors.

“Ms. Reid has tried to get justice, but to no avail,” the lawsuit read. And to make matters worse, everyone that Ms. Reid reached out to, including iHeartRadio, ignored her and still allowed Charlamagne to speak on their platform,” her lawsuit said. “Every time Ms. Reid turns on the radio and hears his voice, sees him on TV, and walks past his books in the stores, she is reminded of what Charlamagne did to her.”

Charlamagne Tha God’s lawyer, Michael Weinstein, is standing by his client’s innocence amid allegations made by Ms. Reid in her recent civil lawsuit. In a statement to Radar Online, Weinstein declared, “We are confident that Ms. Reid’s baseless claims, in which she is representing herself, will be swiftly dismissed in court.” The media personality, known for his outspoken commentary on issues of race and social justice, has yet to publicly address the accusations made against him.

The sexual assault claim that is being referred to was thoroughly investigated and dismissed by authorities in South Carolina more than 21 years ago. During that time, my client willingly provided his DNA, which was then tested and found not to be present in the victim’s rape kit. This same claim was also brought up again by Ms. Reid in 2018, but the South Carolina Solicitor General decided not to reopen the case, stating that it was “not ethical” to do so.
