Veteran actor John Amos, 83, is undergoing investigation by state and local agencies following allegations of elder abuse during his recent visit to Custer County, reports CBS News.

Amos, known for his notable roles in iconic TV shows like “Bill Cosby Show,” “Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Maude,” “Good Times,” “America’s Dad,” “Sanford and Son,” and the groundbreaking series “Roots,” is currently recovering in a Tennessee hospital.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Colorado Department of Human Services, are collaborating to probe the reported victimization of the actor. Specific details regarding the alleged abuse have not been disclosed in the press release issued by the CBI.

Amos’s daughter, Shannon Amos, initiated an online fundraiser on June 7, stating that she had a brief FaceTime conversation with her father on May 14 while she was abroad. According to Shannon, John Amos is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of a Memphis hospital, “fighting for his life.”

“His home had been violated, stripped of anything valuable,” Shannon Amos continued.

The fundraiser aims to raise $500,000 for John Amos’s medical expenses and legal costs.

In a press release, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Mr. Amos has been a beloved member of our community for many years. He has also been an ardent supporter of our community and this sheriff’s office.” “We take allegations of crimes very seriously…We have also been in contact with Mr. Amos and his attorney.”

The sheriff’s office declined to provide further details at this moment.
